Der Ölbaum in Fornalutx wurde 2020 zum "monumentalsten Olivenbaum des Jahres" gekürt. Der „Olivo de Can Det“ trägt seit gut 1.150 Jahren Früchte.
25 Meter, 7 Meter, 11 Meter. Stattliche Maße für einen 1.150 Jahre alten Ölbaum, der auf Mallorca steht. Gemessen werden der Umfang der Baumkrone, die Stammtaille auf 1,30 Meter Höhe und das sichtbare Wurzelwerk am Erdboden. Die Olive steht auf Mallorca zwischen Fornalutx und Biniaraix im im Sóller-Tal. Mallorca blickt da auf eine lange Olivenöl Tradition zurück. Schon die Griechen und Phönizier pressten auf der Insel Olivenöl. Den Baum, um den sich heute die Familie Deya Canals kümmert, wurde vermutlich im 9. Jahrhundert, also im muslimisch geprägten Mittelalter der Insel, gepflanzt. Als die christlichen Eroberer aus Katalonien die damaligen Ölbauern dann besiegten und von der Insel vertrieben, war der Hain bei Fornalutx also schon gute 400 Jahre alt.

When the Christian conquerors from Catalonia defeated the oil farmers of that time and drove them from the island, the grove near Fornalutx was already a good 400 years old.
